Formal wear Concepts

This seminar will cover important aspects of creating formal wear such as fabric selection, lining
techniques, pattern design and fit, closures, laces and other advanced problems. It will be a seminar
format, primarily demonstrations and sample making in nature.

Formal wear Pattern design
4 x 2.5 hours $150
This series of workshops will follow the development of a gown from the commercial pattern, through
fitting muslin to working pattern. The course is designed to produce a perfect fit formal wear pattern. Each
student should have a fit model on whom all fittings will be made or a sewing partner to take this class
with.
Moderate to Advanced difficulty

Couture techniques
4 x 2.5 hours $150
Following the development of a formal wear pattern (see above), the gown will be constructed using
many hand sewing techniques. Lace applications will be learned, along with inner construction
techniques. Museum quality couture garments will be studied for their construction qualities. A finished
garment will be developed over the course of the workshops. The workshop will meet on alternate weeks
for 4 sessions, allowing the student to work at home between sessions.
